the buried people still have teeth and bones!

thought Nanny would like this, a lizard i saw running up a wall, pretty colours!

Day 3......

Vesuvius in the background - the volcano that buried Pompei

thousands of years old and so well kept!

In a basilica at Pompei

Another nice day in Naples today :) warm and sunny, we were wearing too many layers, it was singlet weather! saw something very different today, 2 people on a scooter taking a horse for a walk down the road !?!? don't see that in NZ! hahaha. thats just yet another new thing we have seen!

We went to Pompei today which was really interesting and couldn't have had better weather for it and there were no crowds except for when we were leaving. It's such a huge village built around 4000 years old and you can get a 5 day pass to see the whole thing. It was really pretty yet eerie but we got lots and lots of great pics, i think we took 442 pics today! we went round it on our own with an audio guide, Alisha repeated what it was saying and so she was our trusty tour guide for the day! it's amazing how well kept everything is, there are even drawings still etched into the wall and statues dating back to the 1st and 2nd century B.C.

We got to do a bit bit of shopping today and were suprised to find that in most shops your not allowed to try tops on but only pants!??! weird. Don't worry Mum and Dad, i didn't blow much money! The streets are getting a lot busier now with new years tomorrow, the shops are packed! Getting ready for the big feast we have ahead of us tomorrow! already, pizza, pasta, and espresso coffee are never going to be the same again after this trip!

Danae, Alisha and I in front of a castle which had an ice skating rink in front of it!

Hey guys,
Another great day out in Naples! Went to another church today - 'Basilica di Santa Maria della Sanita', we had to walk through the Spanish quarters to get there but the boys made sure we were safe! it was beautiful inside the church with priceless paintings that are hundreds of years old but in perfect condition! there were some even dating back to 300 AD! we went to the catacombes di San Gennaro which were found underneath the building, it was a giant burial site, it was a little creepy the story behind it but very interesting! there were skeletons embedded in the walls! there was one room where i felt quite ill which was spooky!
We are brushing up on our italian language and starting to get the hang of it! and still getting used to crossing the road without being collected by a car or scooter. dad: you would make a lot of money here! mum: you think I'm a bad driver, you would be a wreck! haha
We went to dinner at friends of Davidaes friends who are all really nice and friendly and they are really interested in New Zealand and fascinated by the Maori culture.
Tomorrow we will hopefully go to Pompei and maybe do a bit of shopping!:) I've posted a couple of photos of the things we have seen but we have taken so many already!
ciao

Arrived in Naples!!!

Hey Guys,

well we are in Naples now!!! the flight from Osaka to Paris took forever! we were then dreading the last 2hour flight to Rome but we slept the whole way which was good! we were so tired we slept through bad turbulence - people were holding onto their seats!

Had our first day out in Naples today and are all completely in awe of everything! we walked through the streets and it is exactly how we pictured Italy to be, it's amazing! we went to the underground aquaduct which is 42m below ground. we saw 1 km of 100km of tunnels some of which were 50cm wide! it was 2000 years old. we went into a few churches which are stunning, the art!!! had our first real pizza which was yummy!! and experienced the Italian road rules or lack of!!

talk soon
